St. Patrick's Church
Catalogue info: Construction for St. Patrick's Church was begun in 1883 and the official opening took place in 1885. The stencilling, marbleizing and sponging was not applied until 1908 by the firm Rambusch Decorating Company of New York.
Following the Halifax explosion in 1917, Rambusch was contacted to complete the redecoration of the church. This is one of the most elaborate and extensive examples of stencilling to be found with geometric designs, marbleizing and sponging.
The sponged ceiling has been over-painted. In addition to the extensive decoration first completed in 1908, the sanctuary has been decorated (circa 1950) with murals by Nova Scotia artist Joseph Purcell. This is a test edited.
