According to 1983 interview with John Acker (1896-1985) of Oakland, the decorative work was done by and Englishman who could not pay his board. The ceiling has a stylized border of oak leaves with bunches of flowers in the corners. This pattern has been found in the Gabarus house and the Sherbrooke house. The small, central decoration has been covered by a light fixture. In one of the upstairs rooms, a design was outlined on the ceiling but never painted.
